![]() About Nathan DayNathan Day grew up in Tamworth, New South Wales, Country Music Capital of Australia and a large agricultural and farming community. It wasn’t until Nathan was 15 that he started being involved with horses starting with rodeo and by the time he was 17 horses become an everyday part of his life working on large sheep and cattle farms using horses mustering in the mountains, relying on them to get the job done and get him home safely at the end. Nathan always wondered why horses were ridden and handled the way they were and it always seemed the answers he was given never made much sense and so he began wondering if there was another, maybe better way? From this thought his search for horsemanship began. Nathan’s search for horsemanship has since taken him around the world from Australia to the USA, Canada, UK and France. He has had the privilege of experiencing and handling many different varieties of horses in a variety of disciplines including working with high level competition horses both in English (Including Grand Prix) and Western disciplines as well as heading the only Natural Horsemanship Bachelors degree in the world at a University in the United States. Nathan continues to learn more efficient and effective ways of how to communicate with horses in a way that they understand. Through Desire, Dedication and Determination Nathan has developed a talent that is obvious when one observes his calm but effective manner when starting young horses, handling difficult horses or just helping a horse learn as well as presenting his understanding of Equine behaviour to his audience so they too can communicate better with their horses. Nathan believes in order to be a good horseman one must first seek the search for horsemanship and then gain experience in many aspects of the horse world, as one can only experience "experience" for oneself. Regardless of what sport or discipline one chooses, true horsemanship is understanding concepts, philosophies, the nature and behaviour of the horse and how to communicate with them in a way that they understand, therefore being able to adjust to fit any situation with any horse, in any discipline. Nathan credits learning his knowledge of horses to some great horsemanship masters who have influenced his journey so far such as Ray Hunt and Buck Brannaman, but the greatest influence of all was Ronnie Willis and Nathan is honoured for the time he spent with him. Ronnie Willis was a man who not only changed Nathan’s way with horses but his way with life. Besides the people that have helped him along thus so far he would like to acknowledge the greatest teacher of all has been the horse. Nathan’s ambition is to influence people the way he has been influenced, follow in the footsteps of his teachers with their passion for horses, and spread a better understanding of horses throughout the world, because for horses to get a better deal in the future we need to change the way horses are perceived by humans and he hopes to contribute to being a part of this process. |
